My name is Kayde fen Deardorff and I am a clinically trained community herbalist, living in the Appalachian Mountains in Pocahontas County, WV (Moneton and Shawandasse Tula Lands.)

I grew up on a 435 acre farm in Roane County, West Virginia where I learned from nature. Mother Earth and the Wilderness taught me about the power of observation and listening. The force and the prayers of the elements created natural rhythms to live by. My parents were farmers, teachers and homesteaders and I learned early on about the joy and the hard work of living so closely to the earth. I kept books of pressed leaves and flowers, studying and identifying plants long before I ever heard of herbalism or botany.

I became interested in herbalism while living at East Wind Community in Missouri in 2005. I had already been delving into diy health, and I began to work in the herb gardens and learn from folk herbalists living in the community. Over the years I continued to study on my own while weathering a number of chronic illnesses and I developed a passion for supporting both myself and others with whole foods and herbs. In 2015 while traveling and playing music in Maine, I suddenly heard the call. I needed to go to school for herbalism and be a part of a community of herbalists. I enrolled in Sacred Plant Traditions three year clinical training program and that Fall I interned with Lauren Cooper of Greenstar Farms in Blacksburg Va.

I completed the three year clinical training program in Western Energetic Herbalism at Sacred Plant Traditions in 2018 and in 2020 I studied online with Sarah Holmes and Karyn Sanders of Blue Otter School of Herbal Medicine in California. I am currently enrolled in the Clinical Herbal Practitioner training program at the Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine. I have a BA in Sociology from The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio.

I have also studied somatic movement practices, meditation, mindfulness, and trauma healing through the vagus system, along with my first and always loves (dance and music.)

In 2016, I helped start Botanica Mobile Clinic, a free herbal clinic for Charlottesville, VA and surrounding areas. The clinic’s mission is to make herbal education and herbal consultations accessible to everyone, working with nonprofits like On Our Own, The Women’s Initiative, and the International Rescue Committee.

I am currently offering land walks, herbal wellness consultations, local in-person classes, and herbal tea blends.

You can find Wild One Herbs tea blends Edith’s in Lewisburg, WV and Rivertown in Marlinton, WV. All of my tea blends are currently made in a solar powered/ off -grid facility at 3,200ft, surrounded by forests full of tall trees, ghost pipe, chanterelle mushrooms, and moss.
